Since hiring contractor Steve Smith to lay down concrete for the new skateboard park, work has gone very quickly, and Bobbi Roe, a tireless promoter of the park and seasoned skateboarder, is pleased with the results.
She believes that the park could be ready for Valemountain Days.
The equipment is in stock.
The group responsible for the skateboard park decided to hire on help because the job became too big to be done on a volunteer basis.
“We probably could have found volunteers if we’d not expanded the project so much,” said Roe.
However organizers are pleased with the size of the pad.
“It is going to be great because there is lots of room for expansion to buy more components to put on there,” she said.
Roe said that they have had lots of volunteer help to date from people like Spiral Contracting, Billy Tinsley, Regan Lewis, Steve Barnes, Al Forester and Dean Schnieder. They’ve also had a break on materials from the Ministry of Highways and Lakewest Enterprises.
Roe said that ultimately they needed professionals to do the work.
“The kids have done what they could, but when it comes down to construction they can’t do that stuff themselves,” she said.
So far the project has cost $63,913.54.
“This community is just super. Everybody got behind it,” said Roe.
