A Valemount potter received honourable mention for a cider jug, which he submitted to a show in Golden.

It’s not the first time that local potter Brian Hannis has received recognition for his amazing pottery, which he sells from a tiny shack on his property just east of Valemount on Whiskey Fill Road.

Hannis said that the piece will tour with the show called Clay+ to six or seven locations.

He is not too excited about receiving honourable mention.

“The reason I’m a little vague on it is because I didn’t win first place,” he said. “For me, it’s first place or no place. I’m not aiming for honourable mention. It is of no interest at all.”

When he sent a teapot to Houston, Texas for an international teapot festival, promoters of the festival seemed to like it.

“They selected my teapot for a full page ad in tea magazines, then my teapot shows up in Continental Airlines magazine … there was no name on it.”

In spite of what threatened to be fabulously great exposure, he said it didn’t win.

When he does get his first place prize, we’ll tell you about it.
