A meeting on June 24 in McBride will be an all or nothing affair for the future of the girl’s organization of Sparks, Brownies, and Guides.
Treasurer Laurenda Futter and Sparks Leader Elizabeth de Vries said that these groups help mould young girls into better, stronger women. It is a group however that is reliant on the strength of the women in the community to keep the program going.
“Sparks, Brownies, and Guides are a positive, beneficial, and non-competitive organization for young girls,” said de Vries. “It also is not expensive compared to other activities for kids.”
Futter said that leaders would only have to dedicate at the most two hours a week to the club.
“The club runs from October to the end of May and is a fantastic thing for the girls in our community,” said Futter. “We really need moms or interested female community members to step forward to see this program continue.”
de Vries said that an added incentive for Guides is there eligibility for post secondary bursaries and scholarships.
“Both Laurenda and I are willing to help people with their transition into the club and it really is not a huge time commitment,” said de Vries. “All you have to do is love kids and wearing pink!”
