For the first time since they were told to leave their place of work for a temporary two week shut down, employees in McBride will have a chance to hear directly from their former employer.
Employees and others and companies who are owed money will be able to meet their employer on Wednesday, June 13, 1:30 p.m. at the Elks Hall.
Martin Hyatt of the Bowra Group said that creditors were mailed out a package containing the company’s proposal, their report on the proposal as trustee, a proof of claim forms and a voting letter.
“Most proposals don’t offer to pay the creditor 100 cents on the dollar,” said Hyatt.
As a trustee his job is to advise creditors whether or not the proposal is better than the alternatives.
“You cannot have a more attractive alternative than that.”
Hyatt did say that there were some wrinkles in it.
“The timing of the payment is the uncertain thing because of potential legal action from Carrier Lumber. We have no idea whether that claim will be made and if it is how much it will be for.”
He said that MFI is trying to force the issue so that they’d know one way or the other whether there will be a lawsuit. Hyatt said that Carrier has not yet paid out the money from the sale of McBride Forest Industries license.
