The regular meeting for the Village of McBride was held on June 12 with Mayor Mike Frazier, councillors Sean Tobin, Irene Rejman, Rick Thompson, and Allan Frederick, along with Administrator Eliana Clements and Treasurer Danielle Smith.
MFI Info Meeting
Tobin reminded council and the community of a MFI information meeting sponsored by the McBride Anglican/United Church to be held on June 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the E-Free Church.
Hotel tax
Frederick reported having attended the meeting with the Chamber of Commerce and the hotel owners regarding the proposed hotel room tax. “I think we made some headway and may have changed some of the negative attitudes towards the proposal,” said Frederick.
Mt. Diefenbaker
Rejman said she attended the dedication of Mt. Diefenbaker in Valemount last weekend and said it was an honor to be there and recognize that individual.
Skatepark
Frazier reported that the skatepark site prep has commenced and thanked everyone for the community effort in the project.
Referral Request
Council provided a letter of support to FrontCounter BC for a referral request for Holmes Hydro Inc for an electric power transmission line on unsurveyed crown land in the vicinity of the Holmes River.
Council also supported an application by Castle Mountain Hydro Ltd for water power works and powerline Right of Way on unsurveyed crown land in the vicinity of Castle Creek.
Northern Health
Council will send a letter of welcome to the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of Northern Health Cathy Ulrich and encourage her to visit the valley often.
Accounts payable
Council made a motion to pay the accounts for April 2007. Items included $17,402.76 to Haiste Mechanical for the Community Hall Project, $26,735.80 to Robson Valley Home Hardware for the Community Hall Project, and $5000 to the McBride Information Centre for the Community Development Project Coordinator.
