At their last council meeting, the village announced their selection for public works superintendent.
Victor LaBoucane is set to officially begin his work on July 9, according to administrator Doug Fleming. LaBoucane hails from Queen Charlotte City.
“He had the qualifications that we were looking for in a public works superintendent,” said Fleming.
And the new public works superintendent has his work set out for him.
Apart from keeping the village in good trim - a long list of duties in itself, the village has a massive number of projects underway. The village is in the midst of a $2.1 million sewer treatment upgrade project. Having just finished the water-looping project, roads which have been broken up to lay the pipe must be repaired, by the crew.
Sewer services will be extended across the highway to the village office and the Shell station, and a there is a major upgrade to the village’s water intake in the coming year, said Fleming.
“There are lots of general public works duties, if you are short one person in a small crew it really impacts the crew,” he said. “We are a little behind in some things.”
Laboucane was in transition last week and we were unable to interview him. We hope to introduce him in the coming week.
