Dear Editor:
It will take some chewing to swallow Mayor Townsend’s definition of “redneck”: “sun-weathered, salt of the earth types.” But it fits so nicely with her word “boorish”: “rude, clumsy, peasant (from the Dutch “boer” meaning farmer).” We get the message.
Mayor Townsend somehow missed (maybe her Ann Landers era) the male chauvinism of the remark by CBC’s James Evans that used the sexual nature of Valemount’s politicians to define the uniqueness of the town. The bra-burners of “my era” would cut him right off!
Mayor Townsend needs to brush up on the new age politician, who, when “caught on tape,” apologizes profusely, blames it on drugs, booze or inferiors and squeezes out a tear or two.
I hate reporters that waste my time with “snews.” The story behind the story is what I’m looking for. Let the politicians squirm!
Sincerely, Len McCarty, McBride
